You need to be more motivated athlete who is in the high performance?
YES! What sets champion athlete is the direction and amount of psychic energy which it allocates its shares. This is the motivation for high performance!
Could it be enough to motivate himself so not to raise any issue?
Yet, both athletes, and coaches discuss the motivation each wondering what they can do in addition to maintain and increase performance.
Usually, coaches say
"It is motivated and ready! Work for nothing ', or addressing the athlete: "Where is your motivation? Where are your thoughts? '
And athletes say:
"There's no point. Fail to progress. If not me. My effort is in vain. I can gather. I waste energy for nothing. How gladly come to training, or be as you once were? '
There unmotivated athlete. As long as you set foot in the room "something she calls'.
In fact, anything that makes an athlete is not without reason. For all that need be done for, appreciation and feelings (pleasure, displeasure), interests, intentions, ideals.
What sets champion athlete is the direction and amount of psychic energy which it allocates its shares. This is motivation.
And increased mental energy can be channeled to the direction called high performance?
There are many examples, some become legends, the athletes who won medals value exceeding impossible difficulties such as serious injury, serious trauma, falls from the top performance so devastating.
There are also many situations when athletes have cracked unexpectedly high value to the worst they can, but recovered quickly and dramatically and proved to be strong and motivated to show their top level.
A recent example is Paula Radcliffe, multimedaliata the background samples and champion of the marathon race, after the failures of the Athens 2004 Olympics, he seemed physically and mentally snapped. Trying to explain the abandonment of Athens, P. Radcliffe charged home late hour (6 pm), temperature too high (33 ° C, with maximum 37 ° C) and excess moisture. Anthony Gleadall, a psychologist specializing in sports performance, component of Britain's Olympic technical team, the fine shall state on this issue drawing attention to the consequences of dehydration and high levels of atmospheric moisture on the marathon runner. So, dehydration slows cognitive function, affects ability to concentrate, thinking skills and lucidity. (Eurosport - author Felix Lowe - 11/07/2004).
But behold, after only four months old, on November 7. 2004 in New York City Marathon, P.Radcliffe back and win with the best result of or in this sample. Thus proves that the world possesses what is called 'motivation winner'.
On this occasion, Allan Steinfelds race director said: 'No Olympic gold, but Paula Radcliffe showed the world that can. It ended a year athlete and proven catastrophic enormous energy capacity '(Eurosport - author Felix Lowe - 05/11/2004).
What sustained her in the up slope P. Radcliffe victory was certainly an exceptional motivational personal tank.
Where does this energy called motivation?
Without discussing strict physiological barriers, human performance, in general, and athletic performance, especially, seem to have no limits and is between supporters of the motivation.
Theoretically, the athlete performer motivation to improve performance should be constant.
Basically though, we face and apathy, of superficiality, the lack of involvement, the drop during the test (no major physical reasons), lack of satisfaction, the lack of feel, even in situations where the stakes competition example, is very high (qualification, title, money).
Sustaining and increasing motivation for high performance athlete is definitely shared responsibility. Athlete comes with sparkle and flame keeps burning coach.
I asked athletes performers often trivial question: 'Why is performance sport your main concern, which motivates you?'
Here are the most common responses (without being in order of importance):
I love what I do, even if sometimes it is very difficult, exhausting and not with the best results
What they do, run, throw, swimming, is to me like a drug, it gives me tremendous satisfaction and I can not leave
We see that if we work results
Travel and earn money
Is the only thing I know best
I like the atmosphere of training and competition
Ambition. That motivates me most. To show that they are at / the best. (Athlete MC)
Years of work, training and sacrifices, I do not want to throw "down the drain '(athlete MM)
But answers:
What motivates me? Not motivate me like nothing. And I think I'll quit beating. I wonder when he can overcome? (More sports)
When I joined I took Olympic gold in the desire to overcome apparent motivation for me childish but extremely strong, after that you can keep the medal home for a dog. (Yes sports)
What motivates me? I always motivation enough. When I say this I mean to be 'hard', actively involved, with a good mood, with total confidence in me. Of course I want to win, not sure I intend never to do training just because it says the coach. Still going to behave in training, or worse in the contest, as if I had the desire to win. (Sports NG)
I noticed for some time as motivation to beat 'invade me' close competition in its time. Why not every day felt like the training? I wonder if he had, my earnings would be higher. (Sports EH)
I know I'm good. Are highly motivated to every workout. It happens frequently but that the competition that I have strong motivation and encouragement that come from those around me to create my emotions 'higher than can cause' ... and then often lose (sports PG)
MOTIVATION TRAINING GUIDE, or tips for coaches
Motivation athlete trains every day. Motivation is a daily task and is as important as training and competitions. 90% of motivation and time to grow daily, and 5-10% in the period before the competition.
Coach before the athlete must have the qualities of a "buyer" determined to win. He will "buy" the ability to sport effort, work, sacrifice and will pay them money for "gold" of success.
Attention! Athletes, even those of high performance, they learn quickly to negotiate. Be clever, and make small compromises, not create some moments of tragedy sportsman denied involvement but its causes are.
"I asked coach three days of relaxation (program extrasportiv) exactly one month and a half before participation in the Olympics. Dream that will not agree, but we felt the need to "recharge the batteries'. We understand and, in return, was "that we feel and enhanced '. (Athlete MO)
It is essential to begin every day reunion with athlete with good personal tone, mood turn and smile. Emotional states "are contagious', 'taken'. Attention to feelings of tension and nervousness which include before or during competition. Athletes "will absorb like a sponge 'and it can often impair performance.
"Maybe if I won from my coach was not so desperate before the" golden section "(athlete MG)
Trained athlete training fun! Athlete training will be pleased if the activity will meet every purpose, usefulness and their consequences for growth performance. Athlete will receive each workout short and clear explanations to the exercises, phrases like 'is not easy but your winnings will be big and build it together'. It is important that the athlete to feel permanent coach involvement, this will create the sensation that effort, hardship, pain, share their sacrifices. Will pass more easily through the difficult times.
'No light workouts at the gym, hundreds of thousands of pounds ... interesting, but when the coach sitting next to me, is an obvious mimic effort, participation, I find it easy'. (Athlete RC)
Not finish without any training athlete says: 'Here's what you won today: ...', or 'specific arguments indicating that you have come today are: ...' or 'Even if I see you unhappy I tell you today prepared on The maine'etc. Not always need units, timer or meter, kilogram, the athlete is a winner and with a certain participation, commitment, sacrifice, mood, mental state, which are essential to be involved because without them seconds, centimeters or weight can not be defeated.
Never tell an athlete in training after 'Today you worked for nothing'. Not one moment forget that man, and athlete so, is a being who acts and reacts conditional stressed in the direction towards high performance, if gratified.
Give athletes 'your daily bonus': 'I love, you tried!', 'It was clear as you can.', 'Just so!' etc.. even if what you proposed in training came. A well-led training is always a win.
Do not feel that motivated athlete, especially before competitions, with phrases like: "I know you will conquer! ',' Today you win '. Most of these appeals are not beneficial! These terms should be used with great care and precautions they can to put your worst moments a huge psychological pressure on the athlete.
"I still remember the enormous responsibility that I pressed in the race. All around me, until the last moment they told me that I will win, they are the best and should win, it is my chance. I was quiet when I should be allowed to make a very good race and not race to be first. When, by the end of the race when I realized I'm headed, I got scared because "duty" to be the first big push me. I was left feet and ... I lost. Since then I train and compete just to be quite good. I'm sure someday I'll be the first '(athlete PL)
Motivation for the performance of the athlete increases if it is in a special relationship with his coach.
The coach has to consult the athlete, to listen to opinions and explanations, to compromise. The coach must create situations of communication. Some athletes are more willing to communicate, others are their more quiet way, but without exception all expect the coach to communicate with them. Such trivial appeals' The way you show that you do not warm me of a good day. What bothers you? I can do something for you? ' Athlete will trigger dialogue and it will feel the next coach. Often athletes with high results say: 'I have a terrible coach! Communicate well. Talk about anything and establish together what to do. '
But it happens otherwise: (coach) "I see you feel nervous and without training. Better go home! '; (BC Athlete)' Do not ask me what I think, why not in my waters. I thought I could to talk to coach my fights. "
Communicating is not just to talk. Write them from time to time athlete short evaluation reports. Characterized it from several points of view given the stage of preparation that is. Design report interactive style, such as formulating the final 1-2 questions about which course to expose your opinion and to ask and the athlete. Not seek to answer in writing, but invited him 'accidentally' in a coke to talk.
Occasionally organize meetings between athletes, even if from different disciplines (preferably high-level performance). Suggest, encourage, mediated discussion topics on emotions, personal style of coping effort, good and bad events in contests, etc.. Invited to these meetings and specialists such as psychologists, physician, nutritionist, physical therapist. In any case they will not lectures but choose those people as friendly and well documented to make small interventions and to answer questions. You will see how the athletes are willing to exchange experience. And also you will find that team spirit and fair play will increase.
Increase motivation athlete nonverbal communication tool in selecting the most suitable. Facial expressions, gestures, pantomime have great information content, transmit attitudes, emotions sometimes much stronger than verbal communication. Pay attention to gestures, mimicry and pantomime before your competition. Athlete could 'read' concern, anger, impatience, disappointment, dissatisfaction. Allan Pease in his book 'body language' offers text and image gallery extensive facial and body signals. For example, standing in front of the athlete and with his arms crossed on his chest, this will signal disagreement. Far from being a body with a message encouraging attitude, position described is recommended to be avoided at times when what it signifies is not beneficial relationship. Of course, at that time can only be found a comfortable position, but the signal was another body. It recommends, for example, to boost inner strength of the athlete, short touch on the arm side, as I said 'I know you're good, I trust you'.
Do not compare athletes you work with when you talk to it, you fix or attempt to encourage, with another sport much better, results of which keep him in shadow.
Not say 'See, that to bed early was at its peak', or 'go out to practice tomorrow at 6.00 as Popov'. This most likely it will displease, will make him lose his confidence, even some of the energy to get involved, or becomes terribly stubborn. Moreover, the athlete may have a higher percentage of weakness in competition, whether on these types of comparisons are insisting. Avoid as much as you can this way of discussion and highlighting the best examples of athlete necessary elements of technique or tactics.
Notice (or talking with your athletes to them) and other human qualities and their performance extrasportive. It will feel good, respected, valued, will have greater confidence in them and your motivation will increase sport. Remember that high performance athletes have little time to dedicate to other interests and this indicates that the event even more successful in other areas have noticed (or academic school performance, family, computer, an effort to learn a foreign language, etc..).
Another sure way to increase motivation athlete you work with is to be empathetic in relationship. Communication specialists say that true art is to know how to listen, to feel what another feels and then intervene. Only such training can be individualized and can get high performance. Of course you will be able to empathize unless you know better athlete, if you are interested and feel not only makes and why do something in a certain way and not another.
Encourage the athlete even when its progress is slow or stagnant. Is definitely positive and motivational encouragement while anger, dissatisfaction with emphasis outlined and frequent reproaches are totally unjustified. Do not miss the 'psychological effect Pygmalion' which reminds us that the word is loaded terrible attitude and modeling power. Not reduce the encouragement to 'catch up you!' or "Come as You Can '. Analyze the causes and make the athlete open the appropriate changes. Coopted athlete in their understanding.
"My coach is not talking to me for days when they lose. I can not understand. I actually lost both and should camaradereste to see what to do '. (Athlete MM)
The coach is one who creates the atmosphere. Make the short moments of rest during exercise and fun. Training should be as much a pleasure.
Ask yourself how often the question: 'Why, or which is the reason for doing this type of training the athlete'. You will have the opportunity to really look the best and customized solutions to achieve your goal. You will be so motivated and will transmit sound from your state and athlete.
Carefully monitored long-term objectives. 'Breaking them' to discuss their objectives and always short with the athlete. He should know clearly. Only then can you touch and feel and feel motivated them.

This article is one of the most interesting on this site from my point of view. Unfortunately, the gap between theory and practice is often huge. Factors Demotivators / discouraging performance in sport are tons but certainly some are paramount. In ballroom dancing, in my opinion, coach and partner (ul) are the two people ("influences") with the major role in motivation / demotivation of an athlete.
very good article
